NWS Confirms AccuWeather's Assesment of Cowboys Training Center Collapse

The National Weather Service confirms AccuWeather's assessment that a microburst caused the collapse of the Dallas Cowboys training center Saturday afternoon. A microburst is a small burst of winds that quickly descend from a thunderstorm in a sudden, violent push out from a location at over 60 mph.

A survey of the on-site damage of the Valley Ranch area of far north Irving estimated maximum winds near the ground were near 70 mph, more than strong enough to collapse the air-supported practice bubble covering a field at the practice facility. Research shows that wind speeds in events such as microbursts often significantly increase in the lowest few hundred feet above the ground. - AccuWeather Story
