Severe Weather Expected Across Midwest

Nasty thunderstorms will focus on the Midwest and central Plains into early next week. Flood warnings remain in effect for rural areas and multiple communities along the Mississippi, Illinois and James rivers in the region.
Some farmlands along the Illinois River in Illinois have been under water for over two consecutive months.

The risks from the storms cover the full spectrum of severe weather ranging from frequent lightning strikes and flooding to damaging wind gusts, hail and even a few tornadoes.

The area of severe thunderstorms through the first part of tonight will focus on the Ohio Valley area, westward to the St. Louis, Mo., area.


During Sunday and Sunday evening, the prime area for damaging storms and life-threatening incidents will shift farther westward and northward. Severe thunderstorms are expected over portions of Nebraska, Iowa, eastern North Dakota and southern Minnesota to southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
