Severe weather will erupt today throughout the northern Plains and in parts of the Midwest. The strongest storms are expected to develop this afternoon with a cold front across eastern Montana and the Dakotas. By later tonight, these storms will move into western Minnesota. Parts of the Canadian Prairies will also get damaging weather from this storm system, mainly across southern Alberta and Manitoba.
The main threats with these storms will be large hail and wind gusts that could reach as high as 60 mph at times. Isolated tornadoes also cannot be ruled out. Travel in these storms will be difficult and delays are expected across parts of Interstate 94, 29 and 90.
A second area of concern will encompass parts of Iowa, Illinois and western Indiana. Some thunderstorms today could be heavy with hail and damaging winds possible.
