As a system ejects eastward from the northern Rockies into the northern Plains today, severe storms will erupt across the northern and central Plains. Places from central and eastern Montana southward to northeastern Colorado, the western Dakotas and western Nebraska will all have potential for dangerous storms.
The area at greatest risk will be the western Dakotas, spanning Dickinson, N.D., and Rapid City, S.D. The highest risk for devastating tornadoes will also exist in this region.
Other than the threat for a few tornadoes, damaging winds over 70 mph and large hail up to 2 inches in diameter could be produced by the strongest storms.
