Severe Storms Expected in Midwest

Storms are expected to become severe and quite violent over some areas in the Midwest today. Damaging winds over 65 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are all threats of the strongest storms. Flash flooding could also develop in low-lying areas. As with any thunderstorm, dangerous lightning could threaten lives and property.

The worst storms will impact parts of eastern Iowa, northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. In particular, the region from Davenport, Iowa to Milwaukee, Wis. will be within the higher risk zone.

Dangerous storms could hit anywhere from eastern Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri through the central Great Lakes. Chicago and Detroit are among the cities at risk for severe storms.

A few severe storms will also still develop over the central High Plains today, producing similar threats to the ones firing farther east.
