Severe weather swept from the mountains to the plains again today, leaving rain and hail in its path. An intense thunderstorm boasting up to 60-mph winds threatened the area north of Manila Village, and a second storm snapped flag poles and 3-inch diameter tree limbs near Lochbuie. The warning reissued by the National Weather Service at 4:39 p.m. covered those two towns as well as Watkins, Bennett, Denver International Airport, Northeastern Commerce City and Northeastern Aurora. At 4:16 p.m. a funnel cloud was spotted near Castle Rock. At 4:13 p.m. radar indicated the storm was four miles north of Firestone, or 20 miles southwest of Greeley, moving to the southeast at 20 mph. The storm is capable of producing heavy rain 1-inch hail and winds up to 60 mph, forecasters said. A Severe thunderstorm watch is effect until 8 p.m. for 12 Colorado counties: Crowley, Custer, Douglas, Elbert, El Paso. Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, Lincoln, Otero, Pueblo and Teller. - Denver Post
