Major Low over Cuba has Tropical Characteristics

A major low pressure system having some of the characteristics of a tropical storm will unsettle the weather over the Southeast during the early and mid-week with special focus upon Florida.

The instigating low pressure will have beginnings over the Caribbean Sea near Cuba as of Monday. The low will become better defined as it makes its way north to near South Florida as of Tuesday. From here, a likely scenario would have the low center tracking northward near the Florida east coast triggering torrential, flooding rain and strong onshore winds.

Another possible scenario would have well-defined low pressure over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the extreme, this major weather maker could become a named tropical or sub-tropical storm even before the official start of the hurricane season on June 1.
