Thunderstorms sinking southward along a lengthy east-west corridor on Sunday will roll on into Sunday night. The strongest storms overnight will erupt in a swath from the South Carolina coastal plain west into eastern Texas by way of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. It is a belt that will take in such cities as Columbia, Atlanta, Montgomery, Birmingham and Jackson.
Greatest overnight threat will be from torrential, blinding downpours, which will pose a hazard for drivers encountering one on the streets and highways. Urban and flash flooding will be possible.
Also, a threat will be severe local wind gusts of 60 mph or more. Trees and tree limbs could be downed. Power blackouts will be possible.
More thunderstorms, potentially a few severe storms, will break out over the Deep South again on Monday.
